Friends of Reed – Humanities Academy

Ms. Bobrosky-Kinsey (History)

8th Grade U.S. History.

Ms. Kinsey grew up at Walter Reed– her father has been at Reed for 38 years. She was inspired by the teachers she was surrounded by, and knew early on that teaching was what she wanted to do. After getting her B.A in English at CSUN in 2008, she had experience in several schools before getting lucky enough to land a teaching position at Reed. Originally starting as the Culinary Academy’s English/ History teacher, she is happy to be teaching in the Humanities Academy, following the greats like Gold and Eskander (two of the amazing teachers who started the academy and have since retired)!

Her website is www.msbobsclass.com
Parents can email her at rachel.bobrosky@lausd.net

7th Grade Astro Camp Trip!

Posted by on Oct 8, 2018 in Uncategorized | 0 comments

The 7th grade Humanities students will be going on an overnight field trip to AstroCamp over February 15-17, 2019 for a 3 day / 2 night trip.

AstroCamp is a hands-on physical science program with an emphasis on astronomy and space exploration. In addition to being a lot fun, it meets science content standards for California, inspiring students with learning centers geared to our specific grade level. A Micro Gravity Lab, zip line, ropes courses, a Mars based rock wall, and laser/star gazing, represent just a few of the options our group has to choose from when we attend.

The camp is located in the San Jacinto Mountains near the town of Idyllwild, two hours east of Los Angeles, California. It’s a beautiful 80-acre campus, on the edge of a mountain meadow, and boasts state of the art equipment for exploring science and nature, comfortable dorm rooms and meals served in their dining lodge.

Please submit your completed Field Trip Intention Slip in the Humanities Mailbox in the Main Office, by Friday, October 12, 2018.

Forms are going home with students this week!

6th Grade Pali Camp

Posted by on Aug 4, 2018 in 6th GRADE, E V E N T S, Field Trips / Enriched Learning | 0 comments

Humanities Academy offers an overnight field trip at every grade level. For 6th grade, that trip is to Pali Camp, located in the San Bernardino Mountains near Lake Arrowhead. Pali Camp is not only an educational experience, meeting some of our science standards, but it is also a trip where students get a chance to meet the kids in their academy away from school and bond with them on a personal level. Beyond that, it is also a time where they are met with individual challenges, team building, and have an opportunity to overcome and grow alongside their school community. The trip is lead by Ms. Siminski along with the other 6th grade Humanities teachers, and has become a truly wonderful experience for our 6th graders to share.

2018 Pali Camp Details:

Camp Dates: October 24–26

First Deposit:  $50 / due Friday, Aug. 18

Final payment of $300 / due Wed., Aug. 30

Total Cost: $350 (includes 3 day / 2 night trip stay, meals, bus transportation, instruction + camp chaperones)
