THIS WEEK IN HUMANITIES...

Here is your news for the week of February 26, 2018

Queremos que te sientas involucrado. Si alguno de nuestros eventos necesita explicación adicional, háganoslo saber. Estamos felices de hablar con usted. Envíenos un correo electrónico a: webmaster@reedfoha.org

WHAT A SHOW!

Reed's Got Talent was an awesome night! Thank you to our talented kids, hardworking crew, dedicated parent volunteers and especially Ms. Szymanski and Mel & Chip O’Neil for wrangling all that talent and Emilie Godfrey for curating our students' art!

LA POET SOCIETY

Ms. Dagilis is at it again with another engaging event for our students! This Monday and Tuesday our 7th and 8th graders will be treated to a “Poetry Slam” two-day poetry workshop in their English classes, performed by the LA Poet Society. How cool is that?! Be sure to ask your kids about it… and pat yourself on the back too. Those are your FORHA dollars at work combined with our outstanding teaching team. We are thankful for both!

THURSDAY BAKE SALE

If you bake it, our moms will sell it! Bring baked goods to Rm 106 or email MargaretGoldenberg@mac.com  and drop off on her porch (located near school) anytime before Thursday at 1pm. Her address: 11547 Morrison Street, at Colfax.

STREET SAFETY

After the recent accident involving one of our students, please know that our administration is taking strong steps to improve pedestrian safety. A “Lit Crosswalk” at the Irvine Crosswalk and an over-arching pole to designate the area have been requested. A sidewalk is also needed on Irvine between Moorpark and WRMS.
You can support these requests by contacting our local council member Paul Krekorian at Councilmember.Krekorian@lacity.org or (818) 755-7676
Additionally, we’ve requested student instruction on pedestrian safety specifically geared for young teens (perhaps during PE classes). A Street Safety Committee has also been requested. Parent volunteers would be needed to manage and direct the heavy flow of traffic before and after school. Are you interested in these changes? Let us know at: webmaster@reedfoha.org

CAMPUS SAFETY

LAUSD protocol requires all schools to participate in a lock-down scenario drill each year. Ms Gamba has assured us that this plan is followed to the letter and regularly improved upon. This year’s drill will have added measures and is happening next week. Additionally, Ms Gamba will create a School Safety Task Force and will need two parent representatives from each SLC. If you are interested, let us know at:  webmaster@reedfoha.org

March 14th is a National Walk-Out proposed by the Women’s March. Please listen to Ms Gamba’s Sunday phone message for specific instructions on how our students (and families) may participate if they would like to.
